Change of owners name in RC card for previously owned vehicle.

I was previously residing in Pune and I owned a Honda Unicorn 150cc of MH-12 registration. About 3 years back, I had to shift to Hyderabad urgently for a new job opportunity giving me very little time. On top of that, I lost my purse which contained my license and RC book. Therefore, the transporter refused to transport my bike as the RC is mandatory for transporting vehicles.

I therefore sold the bike for a paltry sum to an auto dealer. He assured me that he would take care of changing the details in the RC book.

A couple of days back, I checked online and saw that the vehicle was still registered in my name.

I am worried as there might be a potential for the vehicle to be misused, in which case I will be in the soup as it's still registered in my name.

What should I do in this situation? Please advise.

The dealer can't do anything without your presence. You will probably have to go to Pune and get it rectified. My understanding is that you have to be physically present at the r.t.o to get it changed.

Also rc is a important document. If you lose it then the police has to get involved. There should be documentation to prove that you lost it. Since vehicle is still in your name, you are responsible for it. You will have to prove that you sold it in case of any illegal activity.

I hope you have proper documentation to prove that you sold it and did not lend it to someone.

Gas cylinders and vehicles are not easy to get rid of without documentation.
