      Brake Shield Mod

      Front Brake Shield Mod
For installation of big brakes, you need different brake shields on front and rear Or you can mod existing one to match, there is not much difference in area it covers since both are designed for 15" wheel. You just need to flatten the ball to make it flat, it is good to leave the shield with gap on disc as well as LCA side.

Tapped You don't need to remove shield from car for this, just pull the shield and tap with small hammer till the bulge is flat.

Dirty Dan You can go dirty and live bleeding edge as well(see below) if you don't want to change LCA, you need to cut the shield as well as grind the LCA to get clearance.

Rear Brake Shield Mod Rear brake disc even more protected with disc actually tucked in, large disc wont fit unless you push the shield back. You can either tap all around with rubber mallet (what I did) or use wooden template to push the shield flat (See Six Pot 124)

Gap after few rounds of tapping, just tap around the indents not to damaged shield.

Rear Caliper and Pads For fixed calipers you have to use special grease (ATE Plastilube) behind pads to avoid squeaky brakes. Just spread thin film around piston contact area and nothing more, the grease has warning not to use on rubber, so this is pad only grease.

      Test Time

Time for run in, after re-checking all bolts and nuts, took it for a spin on track where I test steering and suspension. This road has all kind of surface including couple of hair pin bends, good for checking suspension.

      Test Drive

Just drove in second gear on whole ghat section, braking very lightly when off throttle.
Did ~75km run gradually breaking from current speed to half (e.g 90 to 40, 120 to 50).

Front Disc after run in, it was well skimmed, right disc had a band at center but metal looked good and even.

Rear Disc after run in, rear was excellent on both sides for set of calipers from 80s.

      Old Caliper and Piston

      Caliper Fixed
      Piston 2
      Piston Diameter 35 mm

New Caliper and Piston Pad width is same but height is 3mm larger (piston diameter is also +3mm)

      Caliper Fixed
      Piston 2
      Piston Diameter 38 mm

Everything went well with drive, can't comment much on suspension & brakes till I take it to highway. Inspected all calipers and disc, re-bled the brake since I had some brake fluid left.

      Some Bling - IPF DRL

Incidentally IPF DRL length is exactly same as 124 headlight wiper, excellent quality.
