Zen Carbon viable to daily in 2020?

2003 Zen Carbon in 2020? For daily

As the title say .. should i get myself a used Zen carbon in 2020? .
buying a used car for daily commute - 50 km/day.. planning to do some basic mod till my course finishes . After that engine swap .
will it be reliable ? i checked the car and took a test drive and all is good except some little rust underbody.
i have a tight budget for 2lakh, and i am getting this real clean Zen carbon for 1.7lk. should i go for it ?.

I have an option of 2000-2003 city/vtec or this Zen carbon . im really confused hah..

(this is my first forum post soo helloo guys !!)

      Hell no.
Its a great car, and with the right mods, it makes a great sleeper. People have done 1.6 swaps and FFes and remaps and what not, but thats when they already have a second reliable car to get around.

2 Lakhs should easily get you a much newer Swift.

+1 Not a great idea to pick up a 17 year old car as your daily drive. Especially, when it has been out of production for more than 14 years.

A little rust can be hiding lots of worms where you cannot see. Post a picture of the rust.

No problem if the car is running well and well looked after and most spares are available,
Talking about age, my car is 20 years old and out of production for 17 and it is my daily driver.

Welcome onboard Vanya ! Have a pleasant stay @ GH. What a thread to start with ! I would reflect the other members opinion. You will have better options for that budget. If its going to be a 2nd car and its going to be for learning purposes where you don't have to worry about reliability then yes you can go ahead.

Unfortunately the situation here in India is different. You don't get parts for such old cars and you're at the mercy of the used cars market which I would say is a gamble.

      Welcome aboard!
I had Carbon as my daily till 2019. Had to let it go due to space constraints as I was forced to 'upgrade' to a sedan.

Just like any other Maruti from that era - Carbon is reliable in terms of Engine and Gearbox.
      - Definitely check for rust issues.
      - I felt greater distance between A and B pillar lead to more 'flex' in car [contrary to what Maruti advertised back during the release of the models]. I had strut braces in my car which improved 'flex' scenario a bit. Keep aside atleast 30K for the works after getting the car [this is true in case of any used car]
      - Brakes on this are very spongy and lack feel [I had upgraded the brake booster to that of Esteem's] - since you plan to swap - I guess upgrading brakes is a given. Also your engine upgrade plan makes most of the regular used car buying tips moot.

Finally, get a thorough test drive of the car on highway and bit of broken roads before final settlement. It is a fine, handsome and exclusive car. All the best!

Do you have an engine and/or a tuner in mind who'll do the swap?
      Have you procured that engine?

What engine is it? 1.6 from the erstwhile baleno? Or something more powerful?

Cars apart, would be nice if you can also write a little about yourself maybe on an intro thread. Atleast we get to know a bit of the man behind the handle too. Welcome anyway!
