Talking Nikon D3000 or canon EOS 1000d

      Hi frns...
am on a lookout for a new entry level DSLR. Budget being 30K max. I ve shortlisted both Nikon D3000 and cannon EOS 1000 d. With both these cams I can go for a third party lens upgrade and still be just a lill bit off my budget...
Need opinions and also need to know abt the Sony DSLRs available in the market on how they measure up to the nikons n canons.
      thanx in advance

Both are equally good. I prefer the Nikon.

and i prefer Canon..well, it's really about which camera you are reviously familiar with. I've been using Canon cameras since long and can corelate with canon easily and not with Nikon.

I guess any of the brand you buy, you would be happy with the camera. Nikon D3000 comes with VR lense in the kit where as Canon 1000D kit comes with non-IS lens. DO not know how much difference it makes in image quality for not having the feature but check if a swap is possible while buying (non-IS to IS 18-55 kitlens). Or buy Camera body and a lense ( a better one ) seperately with-in your budget.

For 30K budget with the models you have in mind, you also can probably fit in some of the other essentials like a tripod, 50mm prime, flash, Camera bag etc.

Just start somewhere, Canon or Nikon, you won't go wrong with them whichever you would buy.

I have few things to share -
Many write that 'check with your relatives/friends on what they have. buying same brand makes it easy to borrow lense etc.'
      >> Not sure how many would be comfortable lending the lenses to their friends/relatives. .. atlest not to someone who is a new entry in the field

Many write 'feel the camera in your hand and see if you feel comfortable with it etc'
      >> Being first timer holding any of the DSLRs, I hardly could make much difference or decide this fits in the hand better than other actually. I guess this applies when you already have considerable experience with DSLRs.

      Over to experts now

I bought Canon1000D on 26 march and I feel its a good entry level DSLR, from my very basic experience. Nikon D3000 is not in market now , 3100 is the one in market now.
