      Dr GD Naidu Collection.- Coimbatore

Dr GD Naidu was an Indian inventor and engineer who is also referred to as the Edison of India. He is credited with the manufacture of the first electric motor in India. His contributions were primarily industrial but also span the fields of electrical, mechanical, agricultural (Hybrid cultivation) and automobile engineering. He had only primary education but excelled as a versatile genius.

He was very active in the automotive field, and has a great collection of rare cars too. Some of these cars are quite well maintained, while some are not. Amongst the collection, one will find several unique vehicles, like the orgina 'maruti' (Not related to suzuki), the first bus to ply on TN streets etc.

Will upload some pix I've got with me. Enjoy!

Starting off with a 1923 Morris.

Sad sight. My guess is that it was some Engineering college's property and the colector must've bought it from them. No sane collector would do a cut section on some classic.

Is there any specific reason for cutting them in half, even if that was a property of any Engineering college earlier??

Woah!! I actually went for a 2 week training programme at this place in 2007 Jan. At the end of the training, on the last day, we were allowed to enter the museum and click pics to our heart's content. At that time, none of us had digicams and so whatever pics I have are all mobile cam pics.

We were also shown his personal Rolls Royce(not G D Naidu's obviously.... one of his descendants) which was imported at a cost of 1 crore. It wasnt the Phantom. It was an old RR.

Will post pics if I remember tonight. Otherwise, someone remind me! I have lots and lots of pics.
