Nissan unveils Sunny in India; Edit - Launched at 5.78 lakh

Nissan had showed its new global sedan a few months back. Christened the Sunny in China, the new sedan was slated to hit the Indian shores sometime in the second half of 2011. It seems the launch of the car is on schedule as one of ACIs readers have managed to spot the car near Chennai. In the pictures, the car is being led by a Tata Manza, probably to match its fuel efficiency. The Sunny, or the New Global Sedan, is based on Nissan’s V platform and will rolls out from the company’s Oragadam plant near Chennai. The car is slated to be sold in 170 different countries across the world.

The size of the new car seems to be quite big, and by the look of it, the Sunny would be one of the bigger sedans in the entry level segment. In the pictures, it manages to look as big as the Manza, which is by far the biggest sedan in its class. The Sunny, then, should be able to match, and probably exceed its competitors like the Swift Dzire, VW Vento, Tata Manza and Hyundai Verna in terms of interior space.
Nissan in an earlier statement had said that the new sedan may not be called Sunny in India. We are sure the details on the name for India should be out soon now, as the car is already testing.

The Sunny will be powered by two engine options in India. There will be one 1.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine, producing around 100bhp of peak power. Then there will be the 1.5-lutre dCI which powers the Logan as well as the Nissan Micra diesel. Reasonably powerful and very torquey, this diesel mill is very fuel efficient too.

Going by the first look of the car, it seems that the Sunny is going to a genuine challenger to leaders of the segment it plans to attack. Nissan is a maker of impeccably well built cars, and if it manages to price this one well, there is a very good chance that it could become one of the leading players in the segment. We are expecting a price range of 5.0 – 7.0 lakh for the new sedan, for various variants. Hope Nissan prices it well.

Is this Nissan for sure? Reason I'm asking is because its a MH registration & if its Nissan, ideally it should've been with TN registration isn't it ?

Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama, Managing Director & CEO, NMIPL with Mr. Dinesh Jain, CEO, HAI pose with the Sunny sedan for the Indian market. In a Mumbai press conference, Nissan has confirmed that it will use the name ‘Sunny’ for its sedan. The word “Sunny” according to Nissan depicts sun god which also means good beginning in the morning (surya namaskar).

Nissan has sold 16 million examples of the Sunny worldwide. The vehicle has just been launched in China and will also reach Canada and Mexico shortly.

Nissan describes the Sunny as a car with a premium design interior and exterior, roomy interior and good performance. Sunny car looks exactly the same as the US model as Nissan adds in the background that this is a “benchmark” sedan.

There are 52 operative dealers and 78 appointed dealers for Nissan who will retail the Sunny. It is powered either by a 1.5-liter diesel engine or a 1.6-liter petrol engine.

Nissan does not state a specific time frame for the launch in the press release and says it will come “in the next few months.” Nissan also doesn’t mention a price band or number of variants. All variants will be manufactured at the Renault Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Chennai.

Nissan Sunny is sold as Versa for US market and it is considered as the cheapest sedan in their market. Price starts from $12k, If Nissan price this well in India it will be a great hit

this car looks big in space and in the category of Dezire. But the price is just 5-7L. This will eat up the whole mid size sedan market IMO. But can it fight the usual market leaders.

Actually older gen sunny is somewhat similar to cedia in terms of size and comfort. Will be surely hit if priced 5 to 7L as shishirbn said.

Front looks stunning, but the whole rear end is very disappointing - very dzirish. The interiors look uninspiring as well, though the fit & finish looks good prima facie.

They are launching good cars, but they need to do something about their ultra-thin network.
