Mahindra and Mahindra with Ssangyong will launch two new SUV

We hear an official word from Mr. Pawan Goenka, President, Automotive & Farm Equipment sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd saying that “Our timeline (for the rollout) is about one year from now. We’re currently completing market research on India. We are also designing the assembly line and overall business plan”
M&M along with Ssangyong which is a Korean car manufactuerer is all set to roll two SUV’s which will be the Korando C and Rexton expected by early 2012. M&M is done with all the legalities with Ssangyong required for the acquisition, and seems very positive about the collaboration.
The car will be assembled at the M&M Chakan plant near Pune where a new assembly line will be introduced. Hopefully the cars will be rebadged as sold under new names. M&M has been successful to put a fight to Toyota Innova by its Scorpio and Chevrolet Tavera by Xlyo. With the introduction of two new world class SUV’s M&M will now take the stakes higher and will try to put a good fight for big guns in the SUV segment like the Toyota Fortuner & Chevrolet Captiva.

Specs of the Rexton ( two models 270S and 270 SPR ) sold in the international market are
Engine : 2.7 lit Turbocharged DOHC 5 Cylinder.
      Power : 165 PS for 270S and 186 PS for 270 SPR
      Torque : 340 Nm for 270S and 402 Nm for 270SPR

      Specs for Korando C
Engine : 2.0 lit Turbocharged DOHC
      Power : 175 PS

Both the Korando C and Rexton seem good to be champion on paper and on the road.

Nice !! The rexton look like an mclass ripoff. Ssangyongs are a different league of cars, they give out too many features for a little price. Kindo like china mobiles.

Alloys and power band looks superb. If they price it well then it will be a hit I guess. Any idea of the price

What would be a good price for these SUVs? 18L for Rexton and 16L for Korando C? I wonder if a 4x4 option will be available.
I don't know what's gonna happen man but I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames

These SUVs are pretty good. I've read good reviews about Ssangyong's vehicles. I guess, Korando has been in the news for quite some time.

They even have Merc E and C lookalikes, with as many features as the originals, but at a lower price.

A 5 cylinder engine is what interests me. Wonder how refined its going to be.

Looking at the engine specs I think the Rexton would be priced in between the Santa Fe and Fortuner territory. While the Korando could be priced a little under the Captiva?

You should see their older models, all are merc etc. rip offs, but good ripoffs I must say. Cheapo luxury cars.

What more can be expected from Mahindras who have been selling WW2 jeeps for over 50 years ! They are a joke in the name of automotive R&D! Although this one is a better product than some of their so called "new" innovations (which they make it sound as gods gift to mankind on the other forum!)

This SUV would be a better option than having their in house team try to build something from mixing and matching their own parts bin and coming up with something hideous and/or unsafe !
