Bajaj Auto will launch the Boxer 150 bike today, The new Bajaj Boxer 150 has been the brainchild of Mr.Rajiv Bajaj. The Boxer 150 will open-up a new segment in the local bike market in India. The bike is infact targeted mainly at customers in rural India. It will be placed as a utility bike, a segment which got almost dissolved long ago when bikes like the Rajdoot and the Yezdi ruled our streets.

Boxer 150 will be priced Rs 48,000-Rs 50,000. The Bajaj Boxer was a popular bike when it was launched years back. But, the Boxer had a 100 cc single cylinder engine which was frugal but not as powerful and torquey as the classic bikes. Now, with the 150 cc engine will pack-in more punch the Boxer will truly match the performance of the classic utility bikes. The new bike is expected to strike a cord with the rural population for its tough build.

Notice the long travel of the rear suspension. This means, the bike will be capable of lugging substantially heavy loads. Also, the bike will easily carry three persons which is not a rare sight in rural India. The rear grab-handles too have an extended carrier equipped with hooks which will aid riders to carry heavy loads. Other manufacturers have tried to revive the utility segment in the past and this time it will Bajaj Auto who will attempt to do the same.

Will Bajaj succeed at doing this? Well, only time will tell but, surely the new bike will attract buyers who have been deprived of such a machine of years. It was earlier thought that a 150 cc engine on the Boxer wouldn’t actually be a good idea for, it will not be as frugal as a 100 cc engine. Answering his critics, Rajiv Bajaj said, that people who need such a bike require enough torque from the engine which called for a larger capacity.

Rumors says its 13 PS & weighs 113Kg, not sure on detailed tech spec. There's also a rumor running that the 150cc Boxer is to be pegged against CD100 segment.

Goddy, you absolutely spoke what was on my mind the engine reminds me of the old Pulsar (before DTSi) that produced 12/13Bhp. But too early to conclude anything. Since its target market is rural, they'll need a great FE too.

Even the current Pulsar produces 15 PS but at 9000 RPM. 13 or 14 at a lesser one say 4000 RPM should be good I guess. Pretty usable and torquey. FE should play a crucial role but initially when Rajiv Bajaj spoke about this a few months earlier, he mentioned something like "Rural market in India are no longer FE oriented. They are moving towards performance oriented vehicles". That means lesser FE!

i think this engine is based on the XCD platform and not the old pulsar platform.

hey KRRaj all bajaj is trying to do here is differentiate each brand with its own identity . The boxer is one such attempt. for eg - there is a boxer 150 . disco 150 , pulsar 150 . all three are completely different the only similarity is "150cc"

As far as I can see, Bajaj is giving that exclusivity factor only to the customers of Ninja permanently and the bikes which will be available at the PBK showrooms till an upgrade of it is launched (Read P220 and A220 are not available in PBK only anymore)
