Short Holiday: Bangkok or Sri Lanka

Planning a short holiday with my wife. Shortlisted Bangkok and Sri Lanka. Kindly give your views on these destinations or is there a similar alternative in a similar budget.

Bangkok will be similar to Goa......

If it is Bangkok then Godfather might help you with location and spot as he visited 2 weeks back

Try Sri Lanka, you have some amazing destinations there....

I've been to Bangkok as well as Sri Lanka. We spent a week in Bangkok a few years ago. Sri Lanka was an overnight stay when I was returning from UK. Didn't get a chance to see Colombo as we were put up in a resort at Negambo. The direct flight from Goa to Colombo has been discontinued. Otherwise I would not have even considered Bangkok.

Other than Colombo you have many beautiful places in Sri Lanka to visit, below are links to some of the tourist spots.

From Chennai you have direct flights and I guess Air India Express operates a flight and fare cost is 4-5K

Right now, Thailand is suffering from one of the worst floods, although Bangkok has been spared. See here for more details.

I Agree with J.Ravi here. bangkok is not to be visited now because of the floods.

i have been to Srilanka as well but was in bentota which is a beach area.
hotel stayed in - Bentota Beach Resort - Rated by me at 5* for excellent rooma, beach, water sports, over all service and price.

to and from Colombo was via Hired taxi which my travel agent in India had arranged for me.

If you don't mind, how much was the package? We would prefer to stay near Colombo. Not so keen on beaches as we already live close to the beach.

i never take a package deal . i went to srilanka in feb 2007 and the room in bentota beach resort costed me around US $100/- per night which included breakfast.

also since 1 INR is 2.21 in srilankan money you get to spend less. XE: (INR/LKR) Indian Rupee to Sri Lankan Rupee Rate

Wow. That's real cheap. Travel will be a little more for me as I'll have to fly from Goa. Anyway I may have to postpone the trip by 4 months as the company is pushing me to join back soon.
