Why do two wheelers avoid lining up behind cars in traffic?

Why do two wheelers in Indian cities always drive in the weirdest of places like the road shoulder, the gutter, the footpath, someone's front yard or anywhere, but on the road where they're supposed to be? All over the world, a two wheeler is allowed to occupy a complete lane just like any car, and is allowed to ride on any side of the lane they choose (although good practice is to keep on the right tire of the vehicle in front of you - giving maximum visibility to car drivers behind you). Most driving schools even discourage two wheelers from driving in pairs abreast of each other on a single lane.

Are Two wheelers in India prohibited from using a complete lane on the street? I've seen frequently that if a two wheeler somehow climbs out of the shoulder and attempts to use the lane, cars behind him will honk him out of the way. Not that the two wheeler riders seem to perturbed about being forced off the road though. Of course, I do get the feeling that traffic would generally flow much faster and smoother if two wheelers (and for that matter, autorickshaws as well) tried to line up with cars and buses and didn't try so many illegal passes.

Add to that those two wheeler riders who keep one finger continuously on the horn button Their attitude is that "I can squeeze anywhere I want, so don't try to stop me".

We are willing to let them alone provided they don't zig zag across our paths. If he comes into our lane let him come and stick there. But heck no. Next second he goes back to the 1mm space he saw in the previous lane again.

That's it!? I am kinda disappointed. I was expecting you to write a thesis on this considering this is your favorite topic.

In most cities, people opt to ride a two wheeler because they can get to their destination "faster" than in a 4 wheeler. The only way they can do that is to drive only in/on...

Probably a smooth flowing traffic on a pothole free road would encourage the two wheelers from doing the "offroad" stuff mentioned above, but then that's wishful thinking isnt it?

I keep drifting slowly towards the left edge of the road when i see a biker trying to squeeze from the left of the car. 99.99% the bikers have slowed down and stoped creeping from the left - EXCEPT for the 0.01% once when there was a guy on a bullet who kept going till he hit a pole (this was in bangalore near the small lane that joins benergetta road - coming from hosur road - next to spar). Maybe MutantX prayed too hard that day !

Yeah I dont think prayers will help. If I see any more bikes jumping the divider line and heading in the opposite direction I will turn into Anniyan Prime
