      Ford EcoSport unveiled, EDIT : Also launched in Nepal

      Ford has notified to us that it plans to make a global announcement on the 4th of January, 2012. The press conference will take place in New Delhi and considering the company has told us to block our dates in almost 20 days in advance goes to show how important this announcement is! Now we can’t think of any other product than the Ford EcoSport which could be announced on this day. Furthermore, it is the first Ford car in India to use the EcoBoost engine, a potential game changer. Ford has taken the right time to make this announcement, just on the eve of the 2012 Auto Expo. Could Ford have an EcoSport cafe, just like they did with the new Fiesta?

      Ford usually adopts this strategy to gauge customer feedback prior to launch. The Ford EcoSport is a compact SUV, which will rival the Renault Duster and will be priced between Rs. 7-9 lakhs. It is based on the Fiesta platform and uses the 1.5-liter TDCi motor, producing around 90 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The EcoBoost petrol motor will be under 1200cc in capacity, helping Ford use the small car excise norm to price the EcoSport aggressively. A 5-seater SUV, the compact SUV segment is at its nascent stage in India and we see huge scope for vehicles in this price point.

      the announcement is in Jan. expect the MUV to hit the road by July / August time frame.

      Godfather you are right. We cannot expect this car before june/july or even next diwali. Here are some details of the engine itself which look pretty promising

      1.0 L EcoBoost I-3
      Ford has announced a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine for the EcoBoost family developed at Ford's Dunton Technical Centre in the UK. Production is to start in April 2012. The 1.0 comes initially in two versions; a 74 kW (100 PS, 98 hp) and a 92 kW (120 PS, 118 hp). The 120 PS version will deliver a maximum of 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) from 1,300-4,500 rpm and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) on overboost, which makes for a broad torque curve when compared to on-road diesel engines. The engine block is cast iron instead of aluminium for up to 50% faster warm-up.[8] [9] Due to natural vibrations of the 3-cylinder design, the flywheel is unbalanced (unlike the traditional method with counterbalance shafts). The engines will be produced in Köln, Germany, with production to later expand in Craiova, Romania. Production is expected to be 700,000-1,500,000 units per year. The engine will be available in Ford Focus and the Ford Focus-based B-MAX, C-MAX and Grand C-MAX

      Some things to note in my previous post are:

      - Production is to start in April 2012 though this will be in uk not india
      - 170 Nm (125 lb-ft) from 1,300-4,500 rpm - current ford gives 170nm at 1500rpm.
      - 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) on overboost (10nm more than swift)
      - 50% faster warm-up.
      - but only 3 cylinders. pretty much like chevy beat D

      yes.. brake lights will be that of the fiesta. also update is that the vehicle for India will be a stripped down version. so do not expect the panaromic roof and some goodies inside.

      Doesn't look like the EcoSport.

      That's because it has body panels of Fiesta In order to hide the original design, manufacturers test their vehicles with different body panels
