Instead of paying designers to come up with such a complex peice of shit they shudve simply copied the good old sipani robin design. Think about all those multiple levels of scratches and gashes on our cars if these new gen au-cariksha guys were to scrape us

I don't think this vehicle will work out as a replacement to autos. The HOHO (hop on, hop off) nature of the auto-rickshaw and it's versatility(easily maneuverable, repairable, ability to carry people, luggage, long items like rods etc. vertically held from the passenger side) cannot be easily replaced by a car.

I wonder if this vehicle will be classified as a 4 seater or a 5 seater. In my opinion, it probably cannot seat even 4 people comfortably.

I think that this vehicle may truly be available close to 1L on road given the cost cutting that is glaringly evident starting with the puny 200cc engine. Anyway, given the mentality of the indian auto-rickshaw or taxi driver, I think all they should drive are 200cc vehicles. Now if we could just do something about all bikers.....

Thanks But No Thanks – Renault Lose Interest In ULC Car

The much awaited Renault-Nissan-Bajaj alliance seems to have tanked as the companies have failed to reach an agreement on the ULC car project. Over three years ago, Renault-Nissan had shown interest in Bajaj’s ultra low cost car project and had given its word to buy it from Bajaj, if they liked the production version. However after the RE60 was unveiled last month and the people from Renault-Nissan saw it, they have not given any response to Bajaj Auto. Naturally the French automaker is disappointed that the Bajaj RE60 did not match up to their expectation of a low cost car. Meanwhile, the Tata Nano can rejoice.

The Bajaj RE60 had created a quite a buzz even before the expo began. The small car from the Bajaj stable has been at the centre of the discussion in the sub-small car category after Nano was everyone’s darling at the last auto expo. But all that speculation was put to rest when Bajaj launched the RE60. They still ain’t calling it a ‘car’ but has categorically said it’s a commercial vehicle and an upgrade from the rickshaw. Tata can heave a sigh of relief. Powered by a 200cc DTSi engine, borrowed from Pulsar, mileage has been quoted at 35kmpl. And for those who’s still wondering what does RE60 stands for; RE is Rear Engined and 60 is the emission figure of the vehicle (60g per km of CO2).

I for one like the concept of a low cost 4 wheeler inter city travel solution.yupp..i too refuse to call it a car.
The 3 wheeled autorikshaw is low cost for sure but a highly unsafe one at that. it was high time we choose to ditch it.
Either Tata gear up and make the Nano a 3 wheeler replacement or Bajaj bugger up and offer to buy back their 3 wheelers and replace with their 4 wheeled contraption.Social responsibility if you may.
Delhi govt did that when it was filled with harley davidson based 3 wheeled pollution wagon. The govt bought them off and helped the owners buy Mahindra marshals.

Policy missing, Bajaj to export quadricycle

      It’s a car... it’s a rickshaw... it’s the first quadricycle.

Bajaj Auto, India’s largest three-wheeler manufacturer, on Friday said it will begin exports of the RE60 in a few months even as it awaits regulatory policy for selling the quadricycle in the domestic market.

Though the government last year approved creation of a space for quadricycles – between cars and three-wheelers – there is no such category yet. The road ministry has formed a committee to examine all aspects of this category and Bajaj Auto expects the process to complete in a few months.

Bajaj Auto took almost 3 1/2 years to develop this vehicle, which was first showcased during the Auto Expo in Delhi last year.

The company has identified Sri Lanka, Egypt, Bangladesh and Nigeria among potential markets.

It is also looking to export this vehicle to European markets, along with Renault-Nissan.

According to reports, the companies have shelved their ultra-low-cost car project.

However, Rajiv Bajaj, managing director, Bajaj Auto, said the company is still in talks with Renault-Nissan and is looking at a distribution tie-up for selling RE60 in the European market.

“We can address the European market through Renault-Nissan. The partnership with the companies was not for technology but for their network and presence and in the international markets. They have a strong presence in Europe, which was not understood properly,” Bajaj clarified.

“We have been talking to Renault-Nissan for past 4-5 years. They have not said they are not interested,” he said.

According to Bajaj, Europe is the biggest market for quadricycles with almost 3 lakh vehicles on road. The RE60 meets the regulatory requirement in every potential market, except India, due to lack of policy.

The company, though, sees a huge a potential in the domestic market where it can be used as both a commercial vehicle and for personal use.

“We will try to pioneer in this segment as we start a new category. We are just a few months away from the launch,” said Bajaj.

The company has created a capacity for manufacturing RE60 at its Aurangabad plant, where it also manufactures three-wheelers. To start with, it plans to manufacture 5,000 units a month of the vehicle, claimed to be much greener due to its low weight and high fuel efficiency.

The company did not disclose the investment on the product or the likely pricing.

      Highest mileage: 35 kmpl

      Max speed: 70 kmph
