      The Tale Of Two Oldies

      Posting a snapshot style ownership review of two oldies that I owned

      Oldie#2 - Esteem 1995 bought dec2000 sold jul2004 kms run 18000

      What I liked

      • original Japanese components - NTN axles,Denso electricals,etc etc
      • my mileage champion - returned fuel average of 19kmpl plus on NH8 when driven at 80-90kmph with ac 50% on
      • average fuel Efficiency 14kmpl in City traffic and 16.5kmpl in semi urban traffic at 70kmph max
      • fully loaded car which was a style statement in its time - alloy wheels,Power antenna,high end film ,B350 Donuts , Broadway Wide View Mirror, Pio8450+TS2150+TS20,Mitsubishi Power windows with door ajar warning lights
      • extremely low on Maintenance
      • Maintenance - 2 engine oil changes+two axle boots+steering rack+one wheel cylinder+one carb cleaning+one PW motor rewind+one starter service+one ac service+one battery repalcement under warranty - that's all

      What I disliked

      • myself for having given her away

      Oldie#1 - Padmini 1993 bought jan1998 sold dec2000 kms run 8000

      What I liked

      • sharpened my driving skills on this car
      • excellent all round view for perfect judgement of clearances
      • easy to maintain oneself
      • dead cheap spares - tail light assly use to be available for 100 bucks,HL assly for 165,gear lever bushes for 20, speedo cable for 100
      • rare ac car with stereo in its time
      • Maintenance - AC SERVICE 1.8k +flood repairs(clutch plate repalcement +headlights+gear oil+engine oil+alternator & starter service all for 3.5k yes INR3500 ONLY)+ paint job post flood for 8k+chassis front cross member 1k+UJ cross & brake linings 0.8k - that's all
      • restored this car myself post flood - complete interior cleaning by self,seats cleaned by wife,carb, delco point,petrol tank,fuel gauge,speedo console,light switches,ignition switch all cleaned by self.Used Iso Propyl Alcohol well on all electrical/electronics to get them all back and running.Also used WD40 where required

      What I disliked

      • body prone to corrosion
