MBIL to launch the C125RLE city bus on 9th march : Edit - launched, priced at 90L

German automaker Mercedes Benz India is all set to venture into the lucrative city bus segment with the launch of the C120LE low floor city bus that will happen on the 9th of March, 2012. The C120LE city bus that Mercedes Benz India will build at its Chakan assembly unit off Pune will be supplied to transport corporations of the various states in India as a completely assembled vehicle. The C120LE is powered by a six cylinder, turbocharged intercooled, 7.2 liter diesel engine, that pumps out a peak power of 245 Bhp and a peak torque of 950 Nm.

Incidentally, Mercedes Benz has been testing the C120LE in Bangalore on an experimental basis for more than a year now, and thus, it means that the German automaker is now up and ready to face the various challenges that the strenuous Indian road conditions its city bus range will throw at it. Mercedes Benz already has a good presence in the inter city bus segment with its dual axle and tri-axle bus range.

Mercedes Benz will be competing with market leader Volvo with its C120LE city bus.

Unfortunately this bus did not satisfy BMTC, so they have ordered more of Volvos. The commuters felt uncomfortable with the ride quality.

BMTC was given two buses - one Ultra Low Entry (Entry + 0 step, similar to the Volvo 8400) and one Low Floor (Entry + 1 Step, similar to the Tata Marcopolo AC & Corona Skypak).

Er! Actually, BMTC had placed orders for the Mercedes bus. (IIRC, the order was for 10 buses). However, the order was cancelled later due to unavailability of BSIV engine options for the C120LE. I hope Mercedes is waking up to the reality that India is no more a dumping ground for their old models (in terms of commercial vehicles) and brings in their new models to India. If MBIL has a BS-IV option this time, I am very very sure that the first lot of these buses would go to.... you surely know

The bus rides really well - but the interior fittings of the trial bus were awful. It rattled like a 10 year old Indian bus. The seats were hard - but then its a city bus, so we can live with it. The bus doesn't throw passengers around when it accelerates or decelerates - except the quality of fittings, the bus is surely competent.

Maybe OT here, I think MB is indeed waking up to the reality. Reason, they've launched the Bharat Benz range of trucks. It's their buses division's turn to do something similar.

MBIL has launched C125RLE city bus for 90L

Earlier today, Mercedes Benz India launched the C125RLE city bus at its Chakan plant, off Pune. The Mercedes Benz C125RLE City Bus marks the German automaker first foray into the lucrative premium city bus category, even as the automaker makes and markets two other models of its inter city buses for the Indian premium bus market. Currently, Mercedes Benz aims to mainly target the government run city bus corporations across India and in due course of time, the automaker also hopes to sell more of these buses to private operators as more and more private players enter the city bus transport business via the public private partnership(PPP) model.

The 2012 Mercedes Benz C125RLE premium city bus will be built at Mercedes Benz’s Chakan assembly unit, which has a dedicated assembly line for buses. Mercedes Commercial Vehicles is the subsidiary which builds these buses at Mercedes Benz’s Chakan plant with technical know how transferred from the German automaker’s Egyptian plant, which serves as a hub for Mercedes Benz’s bus building operations. Mercedes Benz has also established a nationwide after sales service network for the city bus through its service partners. The C1250RLE low floor premium city bus, like its name suggests comes in a low floor design which will help easy ingress and egress.

The driver also has a kneeling function, through which he or she can lower the bus to facilitate ingress and egress of specially abled passengers through the wheelchair ramp, which is another feature that comes in the C125RLE city bus. The Mercedes Benz city bus comes with air conditioning as standard even as customers can choose to order the heater function, which will be particularly useful in the colder parts of India up north. The C125RLE city bus features a 7.2 liter inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel, intercooled engine that delivers a peak power output of 252 Bhp at 2,200 rpm while the peak torque of 900 Nm is delivered between 1,200 to 1,600 rpm.

High fuel economy is a major selling point of this low emission bus, whose engine while surpassing Bharat Stage 3(BS3) emission norms is Euro 5 ready. For the first time in the Indian market, Mercedes Benz India has introduced the BlueTec emission cutting technology, which involves the injection of aqueous urea into the exhaust gas stream. This urea solution reacts with the nitrogen oxide produced by the diesel engine and converts it to nitrogen, thus cleaning up the exhaust gases. This technology, which was pioneered on Mercedes Benz commercial vehicles is also available on many of Mercedes Benz cars. The 2012 Mercedes Benz C125RLE bus is priced at INR 90 lakhs, ex=-factory Pune.

There is marginal power difference between both the engine and I guess another thing should be emission norms. Will change the title accordingly

Yes, i saw the same kind of feedback from the commuters in a local news channel. It's the same with the one in KSRTC(forgot the codename of that inter-city bus).

Anyway Volvo seems to be the best in this segment. little OT how is Corona Skypak? Anyone here experienced the ride with it?
