Audi is contemplating the launch of the Q7 V12 TDI in the Indian market. The German automaker wants to offer the most powerful diesel SUV in the country and could bring the Audi Q7 with a V12 TDI heart as soon as November 2012. However this is still not confirmed by Audi yet as the company’s engineers are worried about India’s dusty conditions. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI features ceramic brakes, which are extremely sensitive to dust. India is a developing country and due to the infrastructure developments happening, the conditions are quite dusty. The ceramic brakes are standard on the Q7 V12, as the vehicle needs excellent brakes due to the high performance the engine is capable of.

So what is the big deal if the Audi Q7 has a V12 TDI engine? Well for starters it uses a 6.0-litre diesel engine, which produces 500 HP of power. But when we talk diesel, its not the power that is the real eye candy. So lets talk torque. The V12 engined Q7 will produce an insane 1000 Nm of torque all through 1750 to 3250 RPM. All this power results in the 2.6-tonne Q7 V12 to reach 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. At the same time, the Q7 V12 will return a decent mileage of 8 km/l.

Although there is a very small market for a high performance SUV like the Audi Q7 V12 TDI, the German automaker wants to quench the thirst of the power hungry SUV enthusiasts. The Audi Q7 V12 TDI will be brought in as CBU, while the company is on track to commence CKD operations of the other variants of the Q7. There is little or no competition in the SUV segment for the Q7 V12 TDI, which is the worlds first production V12 diesel engine. At a price tag of Rs. 1 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Q7 V12 TDI, absolute power certainly doesn’t come cheap.

Damm the Q7 is an intimidating car.
I literally get worried every time my car is stand still and I see this beast skidding to a standstill adjacent to my car.
And now with 1000Nm T, Ohho!

Nice. I'm sure the indian railways will be very interested considering the torque numbers.
