The Asia Pacific and African regional division of the US based auto manufacturer, Ford Motor Company today launched an all new 3rd generation ASEAN –spec Focus model. The launch event took place at the Renaissance Hotel Ratchaprasong, Bangkok, Thailand. The launch was done by Ford APA President, Joe Hinrichs who also spoke in length and breadth about many revolutionary features that the new Ford Focus gets increasing its class. There is little doubt that Ford will be getting the Focus in India and we expect a launch in 2013. Expect a starting price of Rs. 13 lakhs.

The 2013 Ford Focus has been developed in line with the new One Ford Strategy and according to Ford officials, the new Focus comes with better quality, fuel efficiency, safety and smart technology features. Under the hood, the new Ford Focus gets brand new engine choices of a 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre engines. The 1.6 litre mill churns out 125 PS of power while the 2.0 litre Ti-VCT direct injection (GDI) engine produces 170 PS of peak power. The Ford’s Ti-VCT engine technology was first witnessed in its Fiesta and Explorer models.

The new Ford Focus gets additional features like Active Park Assist, Active City Stop (the car applies brakes automatically when it detects an obstacle in city speeds), Blind Spot Information System, Smart Keyless Entry with Power Start and Ford SYNC. Ford is offering so many features on the ASEAN spec model for the first time since this is a very cost sensitive market and such features are mainly reserved for premium markets. The Ford Focus would be built at its new plant in Rayong, Thailand. For has invested close to $450 million to setup this manufacturing plant.

This is good news for Ford lovers in India but people need to wait til 2013, however I could not understand that Ford preferred Thailand as compared to other fast growing Asian markets (e.g. India where car demand is quite high) to launch this premium product.

In fact I am disappointed with Ford India that they have very small product range to offer to Indian people, even though they are in India for quite long now . Figo did pull them up but then they messed New Fiesta pricing. Coming to Endeavour, people prefer Fortuner due to better after sales service of Toyota. Being a Ford lover, I hope that in the coming future, they have better products with better after sales service.
